Stitching & Visible Mending, Japanese Boro & Sashiko Workshop | Chichester Sewing Courses
Slow fashion and mending your clothes is becoming more and more popular in the modern world, with Japanese stitching techniques taking centre stage. In this relaxing workshop Charlotte will introduce you to the basics of the Japanese ‘Boro’ technique, which is an ancient practice of patching fabric on top of existing fabric using utilitarian stitches in order to strengthen the fabric, and in the process making beautiful cloth.
Modern visible mending technique is an amalgamation of Japanese Boro using sashiko stitching and other traditional techniques where running stitch is used to quilt and reinforce garments. Using small running stitches you can be as neat and tidy as you like or completely relaxed and free!
About your Teacher:
Charlotte from A Nest of Gentle Makers has had a passion for textiles and making since childhood. She is a keen believer in mending and derives great satisfaction from continuing the life of a favourite shirt or pair of trousers. She is a free spirit (messy) sewer so is thrilled with the new interest in visible mending rather than aiming for an invisible repair!
Maximum class size of 8.
This course is for all abilities.
