Description

Come and Learn how to spin your very own yarn on a drop spindle,  Melanie will teach you how to hold and set up a top whirl spindle. You will also learn how to blend and prepare wool and other fibres for spinning. Melanie will teach you the park and draft method of drop spindle spinning, within this half day workshop you will be taught the skilful art of drafting and Melanie will demonstrate how you can ply your handspun yarn on the spindle. All in all this taster workshop will start you off on your spinning journey!

As with all our workshops, we have plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits to keep the grey matter alert!

About your Teacher:

Melanie is a professional fibre artist who produces and sells unique hand-spun yarns, as well as crocheted, knitted and hand-dyed garments, through her business 'Spiral Spin' at Draper's Yard. She has perfected her craft following years of experience in weaving, knitting, crocheting and spinning, backed up by formal studies in fine art, at which time wood block printing was her passion. These days you're most likely to find Melanie behind her faithful spinning wheel 'Spiral' unless you're lucky enough to be joining her in one of her fantastic workshops!

Maximum class size of 8.

Skills:

For beginners - you need no previous experiance whatsover. Park and draft spinning is perfect for beginneers who would like a taste of spinning their own yarn.

Materials:

Melanie will provide a spindle for you to use and the spinning fibres. You will have the opportunity to try spinning sheep wool, alpaca fleece, sari silk and also a variety of plant based fibres such as bamboo, banana fibre, recycled plastics and hemp!

Course Duration:

Half a day.

Venue:

Workshops are held in our colourful and cosy studio, above the shop. There is lots of space to spread out and a separate chill out area to have a break. The shop is located in central Chichester, about a 10 minute walk from the train and bus station. The closest car park is The Cattle Market.
